The unknown

You read pages on the orif ankle surgery, medical pages,  recovery stories  and yet don't know what lies ahead. The best part is you write your own recovery chapter.  The same paths you took seem like a new challenge.  The hurdle is you and the one crossing across is also you.

The bone and everything around the ankle that broke heals around the screws,  plate,  spring.  There you learn that you too need to hold on to whatever it takes,  wait for the moment of your coming back.

Time keeps passing.  From the fall,  to the break to surgery,  arriving home.. It passed.  It will pass,  keep passing and reach the best moment when your foot feels the ground again.  The ground will seem different to this foot,  the foot will feel  different and so will you. Smile at the new victorious you.

Every season changes

One learns to walk on one.  As you heal from  a surgery and are non weight bearing the biggest handicap is walking on one leg.

Everything about you changes,  but the strength you had before being a handicap temporarily is constant. You start healing the minute you accept the reality of the surgery and the break.

The biggest thing that will work for you during the process of being back on your feet is that you started from being broken.. So there is no fear anymore. It will mend itself.  Every season changes.

I can already feel the sea touching my feet.  The sand deepening around them.
Sitting on the black rocks,
My legs in the clear water.
Tiny fish kissing my feet.

Alive

The ache makes you aware
Of everything alive.
The leaves that bloom
And the effort it takes.

The wings that soar
Every feather that feels the wind
The bone turning into ashes,
As the new seed cracks open,
Lying beneath the soil.

The sky turning red
Journey of the sun
Behind the branches,
The red lines,  behind the buildings.
First small bird,
Against the black blue sky.

The break

The ankle break

It broke just with a twist of my foot while walking. The break of bone like a flash wave that knocks you out let me experience:
1.pain like never before.
2.strength like never before.
3.throat going dry like a desert
4.power of love,  unexplained power one feels holding hand of the person you love
5.gratitude towards every hospital staff who wheels you, x-rays you to the Dr.
6.patience that kills fear
7.how much you miss little things in life, going home to kids.
8.it takes a second to change the course of things
9.strangers like stray butterflies give you hope
10.every break is a mend story.
